Restaurant Frantzén, Stockholm

Two Michelin star restaurant Frantzén has reopened in Gamla Stan, Stockholm, with a new interior decoration designed by Arkitema Architects and Studio Feuer. The decor is – like the food – inspired by both Swedish simplicity and advanced Japanese gastronomy. Restaurant Frantzén is one of the most acknowledged restaurants in Sweden and is ranked twenty-third in the world.

The goal of the decor is for the cooking to be the focus point, and to ensure a functional restaurant with an intense atmosphere. Therefore the kitchen opens up to the guests and from every seat in the room there is a visual connection to the kitchen – the stage and main focus  of the restaurant. Thus the decor increases the culinary experience and includes the guests in the work of the chefs.

The basic idea of the design is to combine Japanese sophistication consciousness of materials with Swedish simplicity. The materials used are subtle shades of limestone, pinewood, linen and leather.

We have worked with local and traditional materials with great attention to every detail. The decor shall enhance the food – not the decor itself said Ida Wanler, interior designer and creative director at Arkitema Architects in Stockholm.

The floor is covered with a rustic sisal covering and the walls in the kitchen and in oilets have glazed tiles. Weather porches, cloakroom and reception area are designed with simple pine furniture. Lighting creates an intimate atmosphere.

In 2013 Arkitema Architects established an Interior Design Department at their Stockholm office. Ever since this department has been busy solving interior tasks within Arkitema Architects’ focus areas: housing, health, business, learning and urban design. Recently, the department has furnished the headquarters for Wide Space and Weekday. In addition, the department is working on another restaurant project as well as several interior design projects for the University of Stockholm.
